PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
NVLP’s landmark initiative, A Legacy of Change, brings together a panel of NVLP Visionaries with younger, accomplished contemporaries. As the conversationalists delve into the characteristics, qualities and values that shaped their lives, diverse audiences of all ages are engaged in thought-provoking conversations addressing issues and topics that support the generations to be the best they can be.

Throughout history, leadership has often meant the pursuit of excellence and leaders throughout history have told stories about the lessons learned and the challenges conquered. A Legacy of Change:
Excellence Unleashed program was an intergenerational conversation presented at the Prince George's
Community College in Largo, MD on March 7, 2013. Dr. Camille O. Cosby, president and co-founder
of NVLP moderated the conversation between NVLP Visionaries David N. Dinkins, first elected African
American mayor of New York City in 1989; M. Joycelyn Elders, M.D., first African American appointed
United States Surgeon General by President Bill Clinton; Robert (Bob) P. Moses, prominent civil rights
activist and president of the Algebra Project, as well as Bonnie St. John, athlete, author, business owner
and Malcom-Jamal Warner, actor, director, producer and musician.

| College Bound
A Legacy of Change: Excellence Unleashed -- College Bound was held in Washington, DC on October 7, 2011 as part of the 20th anniversary celebration for College Bound, a youth development organization. Dr. Camille O. Cosby moderated the conversation with Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, NVLP board chair and Director, Smithsonian National Museum of African Art; Professor Sonia Sanchez, celebrated poet, playwright, activist, professor and scholar; Professor David Driskell, internationally acclaimed art historian, scholar, artist and professor; and Jasmine Guy, film, TV, stage actress, singer and dancer.

 Vision to Visionaries: Women Empowered, moderated by NVLP co-founder Camille O. Cosby, Ed.D., was webcast live on January 28, 2010 from Spelman College in Atlanta. The dynamic conversation featured NVLP Visionaries Ruby Dee and Sonia Sanchez, as well as actress Jasmine Guy, athlete Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and Spelman Student Government Association President Morgan Pierce. Remarks were given by Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, NVLP Board Chair and Director, Smithsonian National Museum of African Art and Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, President, Spelman College. This intergenerational conversation was supported by lead sponsor Bank of America and The Home Depot Foundation.

Those were some of the themes discussed by NVLP Visionaries who participated in A Legacy of Change , a panel discussion held on February 23, 2009 at the headquarters of UBS Financial Services in New York City. Moderated by NVLP President and Co-founder Camille O. Cosby, Ed.D., the panel featured the Honorable Willie L. Brown, Jr., the first African-American Mayor of San Francisco; the Honorable David N. Dinkins, the first African-American Mayor of New York City; and the Honorable L. Douglas Wilder, the first elected African-American Governor of a U.S. state.
